Human Trafficking Victims Assistance

When you think of human trafficking, sex trafficking of young adults likely comes to mind first. Sex trafficking occurs when force, fraud or coercion is used to set up a sexual act for profit. Impressionable children, both girls and boys, are drawn into sex trafficking by promises of a home or place to stay, protection from harm, promised love, adventure or drugs — often without understanding the strings that are attached.

The average age that a child enters sex trafficking is 14 to 16 years old. Traffickers use trickery, violence, threats and intimidation to keep young adults under their control. Traffickers find youth via social media, the internet, schools, clubs, bars and in neighborhoods.

Sex trafficking is a common form of human trafficking, but there are other forms including working conditions that were arranged under false pretenses or via force that are highly controlled and may inflict debt, have long hours and low wages.
